Doctype declaration Can't Post

I have signed up with a hosting service that offers htmlArea 3.0. I have successfully created my web site. I ran a web analyzer report and my title, description and keyword meta tags are fine, but have discovered that I need a doctype declaration added to my html. Can someone explain to me how important this is to the success of my sight being searched by robots/crawler and how this problem can be corrected because when I type my url in search engines they can not find me.

I'm not certain that having a doctype will have any effect on search engine ranking or crawlability. It's more likely that your site just hasn't been found yet, especially if it's new, and even more so if there are no other sites linking to it.
