Popular Innova Studios editor BUG Can't Post

I've used other wysiwyg editors, and finally settled on the near-perfect Innova Studios editor. It seemed to work perfectly until I stumbled across a bug, and the real disappointment came when I was told by the support folks that it was "by design."

There is a configuration option that determines whether the ENTER key will create a new line (BR) or a new paragraph (P). The BR setting makes the cursor skip down one line, just like you would expect when using a word processor. The P setting causes it to skip down two lines - something most users will not be expecting. Certainly, the BR setting is the most intuitive for the users.

If you set it for BR to mimic the behavior of all word processors, you just broke the bullets and numbered list feature. They don't work when you are configured for the BR option. The Innova support folks won't acknowledge it's a bug, which is odd, because to me it's certainly a bug when one of the features works only SOME of the time.

I sure hope they get around to fixing this bug soon.

It was finally acknowledged in a subsequent email from "Jack" in support, with an indication that a workaround was being sought. This is greatly appreciated, and really look forward to any progress on this matter. I use IE version 6 on a WinXPpro box. I believe our site developer also noticed this in other browsers. We have temporarily disabled the bullet and list icons on the menu, so the users don't experience the problem.

Re: [tcslea] Popular Innova Studios editor BUG [In reply to] Can't Post

As today in the 3.0 version av Innovastudio there is still an issue with bullet lists.

I have managed to come up with a workaround. It involves editing the editor.js file. There is a function called doKeyPress - in my file it starts on row 3588.

Further down in that function the following code needs to be replaced

if(!isInList && ((eval(oName).useDIV && eval(oName).useBR)||
(!eval(oName).useDIV && eval(oName).useBR))
var oSel=document.selection.createRange();

replace with

var isInList = false;
var oSel=document.selection.createRange();
var oEl = GetElement(oSel.parentElement(),"UL");
if(!oEl) oEl = GetElement(oSel.parentElement(),"OL");
if(!oEl) oEl = GetElement(oSel.parentElement(),"LI");
if(oEl) isInList = true;

if(!isInList && ((eval(oName).useDIV && eval(oName).useBR)||
(!eval(oName).useDIV && eval(oName).useBR)))
var oSel=document.selection.createRange();

This inactivates the Enter to BR behaviour if the parent element is Ul, OL or LI
