Image Manager for 3.0 Alpha (PHP version)

The htmlArea 2 & 3 editors have been discontinued.

We've made these forums available as a read-only reference and knowledge-base for people using or developing editors based on htmlArea 2 or 3.

Anyone who is interested in taking over version 2 or 3 is free to do so. All we ask is that you choose a new name that doesn't have "htmlarea" in it to avoid confusion with this site. We'll even give you a link in the directory to make it easier for people to find you. If you are developing or hosting an htmlArea based-editor under a new name, please submit it to our directory.

Does anyone have a fix for this problem:

I´ve the gd-library installed, but only can create jpegs/Png´s, now, if i upload a gif, i get the image-broken-symbol, because the script is not able to create a thumbnail.

has anyone a fast solution to display the full-size-image if no thumb is availible but the full size image is resized per html-code ?.

THANX in advance.

I also work on some modifications like resize the image on upload and create thumbnail with a specifiec size, i´ll post a picture of it.

My modifications are "in" :).

Hope you find it usefull, maybe wei will integrate it in his code, it´s no clean code but hope it is stable, fixes/probs/etc -> mailme -> atk@chello.at

This mod is for 2.03 !

Now i hope someone help me (and maybe others) to kill the "gd-without-gif"-bug :)

The quality/thumb/size-function is only enabled for jpeg´s!

Re: [wei] Image Manager for 3.0 Alpha (PHP version) [In reply to] Can't Post

Hello,

I can not get this to work properly. I edited config.inc.php as follows:

//example, this is the actual file system path
//of the web server document root. e.g.
// Filesystem == /home/web/www.yourdomain.com
$BASE_DIR = "/home/dtz/www/htmlarea/";

//the path where the browser sees the document root (i.e. http://www.yourdomain.com/)
$BASE_URL = 'http://www.domestictunerz.com/htmlarea/';

//this is where the images will be stored relative to the $BASE_DIR (and $BASE_URL)
//this directory MUST be readable AND writable by the web server.
$BASE_ROOT = 'assets/images/';

The directory for htmlarea is http://www.domestictunerz.com/htmlarea, the directory for the assets directory is http://www.domestictunerz.com/htmlarea/assets/, I've tested these both in a browser and they exist. Also inside htmlarea.js I have set the url to the following:

this.editorURL = "http://www.domestictunerz.com/htmlarea/";

// URL-s
this.imgURL = "images/";
this.popupURL = "popups/";

My textarea's are being replaced with HTMLArea 3.0 correctly, and it functions properly, making me believe that htmlarea.js is configured properly and the problem lies within config.inc.php. The errors I recieve whe I click the Picture button are as follows:

Line: 11
Char: 3
Error: 'document.getElementById(...)' is null or not an object
Code: 0
URL: http://www.domestictunerz.com/htmlarea/popups/insert_image.php

And the other error I get is the following:
Line: 149
Char: 1
Error: Object doesn't support this property or method
Code: 0
URL: http://www.domestictunerz.com/htmlarea/popups/insert_image.php

I am using Windows XP Home Edition, and Internet Explorer 6.0 SP1

Thanks a lot, I am stuck!

Great job, I like this a lot. I made some modifications (client and server side) to fit the limitations I want to place on my users.
-50kb upload
-No directory browsing, they just have one folder for their images
-Extension type checking so that they can't post a script (or even image.jpg.php)

I also used my modified version of the directory browser iframe in the user control section of my site (totally seperate from HTMLArea), and my users love the look and feel of it, plus the control it gives them over their images.

Hi, great tool you have made - I'm really impressed.

I've been messing around with it for a while now, but I haven't had any luck getting it to resize images.. My server has both GD and ImageMagick and I have configured both to the best of my ability.

The server has a slightly different path to IM - /usr/X11R6/share/ImageMagick/mogrify, so I have obviously changed that, althought it hasnt done anything at all. Everything else is configured (in config.inc) correctly (as far as i can tell.. images do show up and upload).

What I was wondering, and I think other users might find this useful, is if you had some kind of test page which would tell you if you have configured it right, if the paths given are right, just so we had some idea of where to begin when something does go wrong.

Thanks,
David

Dear David

check that mogrify work well first, if you have command line access, then try

/usr/X11R6/share/ImageMagick/mogrify -geometry 50x50 myimage.jpg

if no errors occour and the thumbimage.jpg is now a 50x50 pixel image, then there should be no problem. However, if you have safe-mode on, then you probably will not be able to execute commands in php. Then the only option is the buildin GD, you should test that also, see the manual.

Hope that helps,

Regards

Wei

A lot of problems with this version of Image Manager. Had to modify the delete function and the form upload action didn't work because the file name was missing the extension.

ie6 js error [In reply to] Can't Post

This line:

return range.parentElement();

produces an object does not support this property or method when inserting an image. Can anyone advise?

// Returns the deepest node that contains both endpoints of the selection.
HTMLArea.prototype.getParentElement = function() {
var sel = this._getSelection();
var range = this._createRange(sel);
if (HTMLArea.is_ie) {
return range.parentElement();
} else {
var p = range.commonAncestorContainer;
while (p.nodeType == 3) {
p = p.parentNode;
}
return p;
}
};

Re: [wei] Image Manager for 3.0 Alpha (PHP version) [In reply to] Can't Post

I can't get the image attributes to appear in the <img> tag...

Using the latest v3 htmlarea... I can echo the attributes like f_align in htmlarea.js inside the _insertImage function, like so:

for (field in param) {
var value = param[field];

//alert(field + ' ' + value);

-- but the only thing that gets inserted into the htmlarea is the url within the image tag.

Can you offer any suggestions?

In the online demo I noticed that the window is incredibly slow to open. I assume all images are being resized before the popup is displayed. In the version I use I simply display the filenames and let the user activate the preview function if they want to see an image. In other words, I've removed the thumbnail functions.

Unfortunately there are two major issues with the image editor, attributes are not inserted and once an image is placed in the htmlarea it can't be modified.

Re: [ezagent] Image Manager for 3.0 Alpha (PHP version) [In reply to] Can't Post

O.k. what’s the secret. Beautiful mod working great for me almost…

My server is WinNT5.0
GD Version 2.0
imgManager for 2.03

thumbs.php will automatically create .thumbs folder in the root only and then only make a thumb or two. If I manually create .thumbs folders and fill them with thumbnail pics all is good. I don’t know a bit of php so I’m lost.

Will one thumb folder work for all directory levels?
What is the value of ‘img’ in $img = $BASE_DIR.$_GET['img'];
Can I just browse with previews and skip all this thumbnail stuff?
Why am I cursed like this?

Any help would be good
Thanks

Re: [mossimo] Image Manager for 3.0 Alpha (PHP version) [In reply to] Can't Post

Ok, in the imgManager for 2.03, I tried to create one .thumb directory to store the thumbnails for each directory (and subdirectories). Of course this has both advantages and disadvantages.

advantage:
thumbnails are stored in a directory, allows files beginning with .

disadvantage:
doesn't work with SAFE_MODE ON, PHP can create the directory, but reading the directory will violate SAFE MODE permissions (I still think this is really silly, in safe-mode, PHP can create directories but not read them?!!), and of course, php is not allowed to delete them either!.

Method 2:
Create thumbnails like .imagefilename.jpg, i.e prepend a . prefix to the thumbnails. Of course, this means that imagefile with . in the begining is not allowed. Now, if directory creation is disabled, everything should work in safe_mode (i.e. .thumb will never be created).

Why method 2? Because many servers have safe_mode turned on, unless you can turn them off."What is the value of ‘img’ in $img = $BASE_DIR.$_GET['img']; "

$img is the full server path to the image, 'img' is the associative key for the $_GET array, $_GET are the url parameter variables. $_POST will be form post variables, although you can set form methods as GET.

"Can I just browse with previews and skip all this thumbnail stuff? "

Hmm, it is possible to just generate the thumbnails on the fly, and not store them on disk. This will slow down the server of course, as image manipulation is not the quickest thing to do.

And, there is a newer version of the image manager with an image editor as well, only done it for htmlarea version 3 beta. If enough interests, a version for htmlarea 2.03 is possible.

Cheers

Wei
