Getting htmlArea to work within perl script

The htmlArea 2 & 3 editors have been discontinued.

We've made these forums available as a read-only reference and knowledge-base for people using or developing editors based on htmlArea 2 or 3.

Anyone who is interested in taking over version 2 or 3 is free to do so. All we ask is that you choose a new name that doesn't have "htmlarea" in it to avoid confusion with this site. We'll even give you a link in the directory to make it easier for people to find you. If you are developing or hosting an htmlArea based-editor under a new name, please submit it to our directory.

Getting htmlArea to work within perl script Can't Post

My webhost only allows the file types .pl and .cgi in the cgi-bin. If an image file, or html file is inside this directory, and is loaded via a webrowser, it will not display.

I'm trying to use htmlArea inside a perl script. The script goes out, and finds the file data.txt and then prints it into the textarea for editting. Since .js, .html, and .gif files won't work from within the cgi-bin, I had to put them in another directory (the parent directory to the cgi-bin).

This probably sounds confusing. So here are the URL's: (this perl script attempting to access the htmlArea files in the directory ) (this is a file outside the cgi-bin I made just to test htmlArea. It works, but it isn't a perl script. It accesses the same htmlArea files that the find.cgi file is trying to use.)

I'm making some scripts in perl for a site I am designing for a local business. The site will not be hosted on a free host, I'm just trying to test everything out to make sure it works first. I won't get the new (pay) webspace until the site is done however.

Can you see any way around this? Or do you know of another free host that supports Perl/CGI that will allow me to place other types of files in the same directory as .cgi files?

Nevermind. I found another free host that's a bit more flexible :)

Peter, You can also try putting the htmlArea files outside the cgi-bin and setting both paths below in your HTML output to point to the URL outside of the cgi-bin.

<script language="Javascript1.2" src=""></script>
_editor_url = "";
