HTMLArea 3.0-beta released

The htmlArea 2 & 3 editors have been discontinued.

We've made these forums available as a read-only reference and knowledge-base for people using or developing editors based on htmlArea 2 or 3.

Anyone who is interested in taking over version 2 or 3 is free to do so. All we ask is that you choose a new name that doesn't have "htmlarea" in it to avoid confusion with this site. We'll even give you a link in the directory to make it easier for people to find you. If you are developing or hosting an htmlArea based-editor under a new name, please submit it to our directory.

Completely rewritten, features a better architecture, plugin-based, cross-browser, faster, some very useful plugins that include table editor, spell checker, CSS plugin, etc. 8-)

Bug Fix for 831403? [In reply to] Can't Post

Note sure where to post this, so I will post it here.
BUG: [ 831403 ] Mozilla loses focus on popup dialog
,has been bothering me, so I looked into. Also this was also an excuse to found out how this thing works.

Anyways this seems to fix it for me:
In dialog.js,v 1.3 at:

Code
Dialog._parentEvent = function(ev) {
if (Dialog._modal && !Dialog._modal.closed) {
// Dialog._modal.focus();
setTimeout(function(){Dialog._modal.focus();}, 1);
HTMLArea._stopEvent(ev);
}

};

Changed Line 26:

Code
Dialog._modal.focus();

to:

Code
setTimeout(function(){Dialog._modal.focus();}, 1);

I am not excatly sure why this fixes it Blush mabye someone with more insight can tell me.

Re: [mishoo] HTMLArea 3.0-beta released [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi,

I noticed that when using FireFox 0.8, when I want to insert a link, I can't actually type anything until I press ok which then throws up an error and only then can I type in my URL. A similar thing happens with the images.

Also when I click on OK, the box doesn't go and instead I have to close it manually. I'm not too bothered but for some people, this will be an issue, especially if someone were to use it in a commercial environment.

Anyone else having this problem?

Janusz

I think it's related to the post above yours. I applied a similar patch into the CVS, yesterday, so the next release should have it fixed.

By the way, it never happened to me.. but yes, I know that browsers are very strange things. :-\

Hi Mishoo, I haven't downloaded new rc1 yet, but I want to report bugs in cvs from 2004-01-28, the wordkilling on paste doesn't work, due to cleaning prior to pasting :

Code
if (this.config.killWordOnPaste)
this._wordClean();
this._doc.execCommand(cmdID, UI, param);

It should be swapped.
And also the "insert table" dialog isn't i18n'ized.
And finally, id of buttons have changed, but the id in i18n file wasn't corrected (insert- added to hr and lists). Working i18n czech file is few threads lower...

PS: Could you please write spellchecker engine in PHP using http://php.net/pspell, please? Or just indicate the scheme of communication between the scripts, thanks.

Hi,
first thanx for your nice work !
I was nearly to implement it into a smaller CMS we are using.

But so I still found the same problem, that was already reported.
For me the mentioned bugfix doesn't gets to solve it completely:
focus on the dialog is good again, but I cannot submit the dialog.

I'm using Mozilla 1.6 on WinXP and thus a very familiary platform for non-IE-Browsers.
A friend with his machine on Win2000 tried the same with the same result.

Would be nice, this problem might also be fixed, since setting of links is a core-feature of a web-based HTML-Editor.

sincerely / GW

Re: [int25] HTMLArea 3.0-beta released [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi

I'm trying out V3 and have a couple of questions.

1) I am trying to allow a "code" insert, but when htmlarea works within a
section it still inserts
instead of #13 - so I have no line breaks at all.
2) When I do editor.insertHTML("sdfsdf") all works okay, but when I do editor.insertHTML("") the image is not inserted unless I first select a range of text.

Thanks :-)

Pete

Hi,

I translated the tooltip js file into Hungarian; you can download it from: http://philosophy.elte.hu/~jhardi/htmlarea/hu.js

Re: HTMLArea 3.0-beta released [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi,

I think I found a small bug.

Code
HTMLArea.prototype._insertTable = function() {
...
switch (field) {
...
case "f_spacing" : table.cellspacing = parseInt(value); break;
case "f_padding" : table.cellpadding = parseInt(value); break
...

table.cellspacing should be table.cellSpacing
and
table.cellpadding should be table.cellPadding

Without this modification spacing and padding values set in the insert_table popup don't affect the inserted HTML table in Mozilla/Firefox browsers.

may be some other bugs !? [In reply to] Can't Post

Hello,

Thanks for your amazing work! I am starting to use htmlArea v3.0 beta, and I followed the conversation about extracting the html file out of the htmlArea directory and it seems to work ok, but I run into some more problems :

- I use actually
and it got automatically rid of the nice supplementary plugin for tables (I did not insist for the spelling plugin) ?

- Any way to have a single command bar for many text Areas, as a way to minimise the power needed to make the system run, of course it would run on the active textarea after testing that the active element is indeed a textarea

- A last thing (could be my computer being too fussy) when having the full page editing textarea (example-fully-loaded.html) in its original context on windows Me, I get a JS error after each character insertion for Explorer and Mozilla blinks.

Best greetings!

Laser

Is it possible for you to translate the latest CSV language file version 1.10 from the HTMLArea CSV site to german.

I have attached the en.js file to this message!

Has anyone else encountered this problem? [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi everyone,

I recently encountered a problem with something that I had set up a long time ago now and never used. I had tested it to make sure it worked, and I can't remember but I assume it did.

When htmlArea RC1 loads up the CSS Syntax and Info lines now have 2 drop down boxes each. 2 for Syntax and 2 for Info. I thought there was only supposed to be one each. That is correct right?

Anyways here is all the code I have in place with paths xxxxxx'd out for privacy reasons. Also I have wrapped some lines because they force the table incredibly wide in this forum.

Code

<!--
var editor_text = new HTMLArea("text");
var config_text = editor_text.config;
config_text.toolbar = [['fontname', 'space', 'fontsize', 'space', 'formatblock', 'space',
'bold', 'italic', 'underline', 'separator', 'strikethrough', 'subscript',
'superscript', 'separator', 'copy', 'cut', 'paste', 'space', 'undo',

'inserttable', 'htmlmode', 'separator', 'popupeditor', 'separator', 'showhelp', 'about']];
config_text.height = '400';
config_text.width = '553';
editor_text.registerPlugin(TableOperations);
editor_text.registerPlugin(ContextMenu);

Design mode interprets escaped brackets as an element [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi, I have a problem that the html content for the text field that's being edited by HTMLArea contains escaped brackets that are interpreted as an element when the content is edited. An example is a file path that is expressed as: <drive :&gt\Windows\system32 in the HTML document. This is converted by the browser in designMode to the following markup: <drive :/>\Windows\system32, in other words the entities are interpreted as describing an XML element. This causes problems because in WYSIWYG mode the character sequence is no longer displayed. Does anyone know how to override this behaviour of the browser? Cheers Adam

Re: [adam_ratcliffe] Design mode interprets escaped brackets as an element [In reply to] Can't Post

A tag like
or is not xml. It is in fact "Well Formed" XHTML. XHTML is the way thing should be going because all tags have to be properly closed. In fact if a checkbox is checked the tag must contain: checked="checked" and not just the word checked.

Go to www.w3.org and look up XML and you'll see that htmlArea is not making XML.

Re: [Pendulum] Design mode interprets escaped brackets as an element [In reply to] Can't Post

I dug a little deeper on this problem and the interpretation of the HTML entities is being done by the browser (Internet Explorer). It seems this behaviour is an attempt by the browser to 'correct' the markup being edited. To avoid the interpretation of these entitities it's necessary to escape the entity itself e.g < becomes < Cheers Adam

Man that reminds me of a time where I had to escape some javascript twice to get the effect I wanted. I've seen some SQL before that had single quotes which had to be doubled up 3 times so it was actually '''''' for one single quote.
