textarea length problem

The htmlArea 2 & 3 editors have been discontinued.

We've made these forums available as a read-only reference and knowledge-base for people using or developing editors based on htmlArea 2 or 3.

Anyone who is interested in taking over version 2 or 3 is free to do so. All we ask is that you choose a new name that doesn't have "htmlarea" in it to avoid confusion with this site. We'll even give you a link in the directory to make it easier for people to find you. If you are developing or hosting an htmlArea based-editor under a new name, please submit it to our directory.

textarea length problem Can't Post

Hi Guys,

Please Help !!... I have recently began using htmlarea and it was working perfectly until a user decided to type 3 pages worth of text Unsure........

If i delete most of the text to about a page, it works fine, i can save the text on the DB. When it goes beyond length, i'm not able to save the update to the DB, nothing responds and nor do i get any errors.

I am using PHP5 under windows and IIS.

Thanks in advance.

If you're trying to save to a database, make sure that the size of your DB field is large enough to store the data. For example when using MySQL you should select TEXT as your field type and you should be fine.

Hi FxF,

MySql field is of "LongText" so that should be fine, when using a normal "<textarea>" I can store as much as i like.

Are there any limits in "htmlarea" itself that i should look at ?, i've noticed that the initial size is set to "auto".

Thanking you.

Hi There,

My BAD !!! Pirate...... after testing, i have determined that its a PHP variable limit of 255 chars causing the problem. Though, funny, because in its documentation it mentions that the variable size can grow as big as it needs to... no happening.

If you know how to go around these prob, i would appreciate it very much....

Thanks.

After all that...... it wasn't a PHP error, but a BROWSER limit. It seems as though IE has a 255 char limit on "method=GET", i couldn't reproduce the problem on NetScape, though i did read somewhere that NetScape's limit is larger than IE.

I have since changed the method to "POST" and it works like a charm on both browsers Angelic...........................

Cheers.
