Help with html tags

The htmlArea 2 & 3 editors have been discontinued.

We've made these forums available as a read-only reference and knowledge-base for people using or developing editors based on htmlArea 2 or 3.

Anyone who is interested in taking over version 2 or 3 is free to do so. All we ask is that you choose a new name that doesn't have "htmlarea" in it to avoid confusion with this site. We'll even give you a link in the directory to make it easier for people to find you. If you are developing or hosting an htmlArea based-editor under a new name, please submit it to our directory.

Help with html tags Can't Post

Hello everyone...

First of all i wanna say that this htmlArea is very good indeed..

Now, i have a problem, and tried to search here in the forum, but i couldn't find a answer to it.

In this, when for example you put a color in some text it appears as &gt font color=#123456 &lt

I need it that to be font color='#123456' or even font color="#123456"

How can i make this possible to happen?

Thanks a lot,
Joćo

Thanks very, very much mate... I've tried to do this but unfortunnalty i wasn't able to do it.

The editor i'm using is the standart that cames with the htmlArea, since i only need this to a very simple thing, but here goes anyway the editor.js.

Well mate. Thank you very much indeed...

Re: [Ixion] Help with html tags [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi ixion:

Here you go! Now, all attributes are double quoted. Only condition is that no empty spaces are accepted in some attributes (IE decides which ones). Example:

id="MyId" correct
id="My_Id" correct
id="My Id" incorrect. This case will cause the conversion misbehave.

Changes are in lines 588, 690 and 1101-1104

Regarding your question about <p></p> as your question is incomplete, I guess you meant the editor inserts <BR> instead of <P></P>.

If this is what you mean, it's possible and quite easy, however it's not recommended because you will affect several things. To mention a few, Ordered, Unordered and definition lists will not work.

The solution is to instruct your users of using SHIFT+Enter to insert a BR or to create a button which inserts the BR. Let me know what you want to do to send you instructions on how to implement it.

Greetings

Re: [Luis] Help with html tags [In reply to] Can't Post

Hello,

New here and to htmlArea and it's fantastic. I've got one question related to this topic and a second question related to the tool in General.

First question: I've been able to add the BR and NB (non breaking space) buttons but I'm not sure how to make them work in the editor. They appear but what else do I have to do to make the code work?

Second question: Can I include this tool in another tool I've created? and if so who do I contact for permission?

Re: [ccmehil] Help with html tags [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi ccmehil:

Make sure the CMDID matches the one in the button you added.

else if (cmdID == 'insertbreak') {
editor_insertHTML(objname, "<BR>");
}

Regarding your second question, I understand permission is granted to use HTMLArea in any application. Only condition is that you cannot remove the copyright license on top of editor.js

Re: [Luis] Help with html tags [In reply to] Can't Post

Thanks very much for your help Luis...

Now what i meant from the <p> is that when a user makes an enter it gives an <p> instead of <br>. I know if the user presses shift+enter it gives a <br>, but they (the client) don't like this, and are asking me to make it a <br> when they press enter :(, so if you could help me on this i would be very apreciated..

Re: [Ixion] Help with html tags [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Ixion:

Changing the normal behavior of the enter key is up to you. Doing so will cause you lot of headaches. Almost all format blocks will misbehave. You'll lose the ability to insert numbered an bulleted lists.

Just search for this code in your editor.js and remove the comments

/* cancel ENTER key and insert <BR> instead (Example to insert code onkey event)
if (ord == 13 && editEvent.type == 'keypress') {
editEvent.returnValue = false;
editor_insertHTML(objname, "<br>"); return;
}
*/

Dear Luis,

your solution works if the htmlArea user doesn't type any "=" in the editor.

Did you try to do that? What happens?

Bye.

Sorry, maybe I was not clear.
I'll try to explayn with an example.

Let's open an empty HTMLArea and type this text:

Here's the Ohm's Law : V=R*I

and then click Enter.

Now if you click the "View HTML Source" button, here's what you'll see:

<P>Here's the Ohm's Law : V="R*I</P">

Anyway I'd like to tell you how much I've appreceate your work and the fact you're here to help other people.

Bye.
