Luis Please Help

The htmlArea 2 & 3 editors have been discontinued.

We've made these forums available as a read-only reference and knowledge-base for people using or developing editors based on htmlArea 2 or 3.

Anyone who is interested in taking over version 2 or 3 is free to do so. All we ask is that you choose a new name that doesn't have "htmlarea" in it to avoid confusion with this site. We'll even give you a link in the directory to make it easier for people to find you. If you are developing or hosting an htmlArea based-editor under a new name, please submit it to our directory.

Luis Please Help Can't Post

I have integrated htmlArea to a asp page, when I save the content in the htmlArea box it goes to a access database file. My problem is that every time i save a content I have to change to htmlmode and then back to editor mode and after that if I push the save button to send the info for saving it works. Have you any idea why is that so?

I have tested it even with Luis htmlarea and its still same problem?

I'm grateful if you can help me...

Re: [Hoyala] Luis Please Help [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Hoyala:

Three big problems here. First, I don't know ASP. Second, I don't know Access and, Third, I don't know your code.

Apparently your editor is not updating the contents before submitting for a reason I can't guess without seeing your code.

Try doing the following and let me know if it worked:

In editor.js, search for this piece of code and append the code in red.
(be careful wit var r. I think it must be a single line, no wrapping).

// convert htmlarea from textarea to wysiwyg editor
editor_setmode(objname, 'init');
// call filterOutput when user submits form
for (var idx=0; idx < document.forms.length; idx++) {
var r = document.forms[idx].attachEvent('onsubmit', function() {editor_setmode(objname, '');editor_setmode(objname, 'init');editor_filterOutput(objname); });
if (!r) { alert("Error attaching event to form!"); }
}
return true;
}

What this will do is to switch between WYSIWYG and HTMLMode an WYSIWYG again automatically, before submitting the form.

I hope this helps.

Re: [Luis] Luis Please Help [In reply to] Can't Post

Hello Luis!

Thank you for the reply, i'm very glad that you answered because I have spent many hours with this problem without any result.
I did the changes you posted, but it didnt worked.
Anyway, the problem is exactly as you describe:
"Apparently your editor is not updating the contents before submitting for a reason I can't guess without seeing your code."

I use this Java script to update the textarea to the my form;
<SCRIPT LANGUAGE=JavaScript>
function CallSubmit()
{
document.frmInput.txtContent.value = document.frmInput.Message.value;
document.frmInput.submit();
}
}
</SCRIPT>
When I switch between WYSIWYG and HTMLMode an WYSIWYG again before submitting it store the textarea otherwise its blank.
Is it possible to make a special button for storing the data? I'm very grateful if you reply.

Thanks,
Hoyala

Hi Hoyala:

Your submit code doesn't give me a clue. Is there some address where I can see your editor? If you don't want to make it public you can send it in a PM.

Greetings

Re: [Hoyala] Luis Please Help [In reply to] Can't Post

I'd the same problem, but the solution was simply to start the save function witheditor_updateOutput(objname);

Ive changed the save button to

// Save
if (cmdID == 'save') {
editor_updateOutput(objname);
document.pagechange.submit();
}

Why are you using javascript? Im submitting the form to a PHP-script.

Dear Sara!

The code you wrote works, I dont know how to thank you. You have saved my project.
I use Java just for the submiting process otherwise i'm using ASP. But it works fine now!
Thanks again and I love you :)
