Two Spaces = Question Mark

The htmlArea 2 & 3 editors have been discontinued.

We've made these forums available as a read-only reference and knowledge-base for people using or developing editors based on htmlArea 2 or 3.

Anyone who is interested in taking over version 2 or 3 is free to do so. All we ask is that you choose a new name that doesn't have "htmlarea" in it to avoid confusion with this site. We'll even give you a link in the directory to make it easier for people to find you. If you are developing or hosting an htmlArea based-editor under a new name, please submit it to our directory.

Two Spaces = Question Mark Can't Post

Hello,

On my field web site, if I enter two spaces in a row in the htmlArea, the first one will be converted to a question mark. I think that htmlArea is converting it a special character, and that my server (which receives the form) does not understand it and converts it the ?.

Does that sound possible?

Anyone have other ideas.... and potential fixes?

Thanks,
Todd

That makes sense.

Here is what puzzles me. As soon as my servlet receives the form submission, I examine the field and find a ? there instead of   . Likewise, when it goes into the database, the database also contains ?. I added a bit of javascript to my source .html to put up an alert when the form is submitted. The alert just displays the value of the textarea in the form. In that case I see no space.

For example:

if i type "a b" ( that is a space space b ) then
the javascript alert will have ab
the form variable in in the servlet will have a? b
and the database will have a? b .

It only occurs on the field server... my local test server works fine.

Do I need to specifiy a charset or something?
