ASP: Pure ASP upload, Database-driven image-inserting for v. 2.03

The htmlArea 2 & 3 editors have been discontinued.

We've made these forums available as a read-only reference and knowledge-base for people using or developing editors based on htmlArea 2 or 3.

Anyone who is interested in taking over version 2 or 3 is free to do so. All we ask is that you choose a new name that doesn't have "htmlarea" in it to avoid confusion with this site. We'll even give you a link in the directory to make it easier for people to find you. If you are developing or hosting an htmlArea based-editor under a new name, please submit it to our directory.

ASP: Pure ASP upload, Database-driven image-inserting for v. 2.03 Can't Post

Improved ASP-upload added. See this post where you also find the attachments.

Download available for version 2.03 with the following functions:
  • Pure ASP-upload: Upload image or documents to different folders. Inserts information into Access 2000 Database. (The images are stored on the server, not as BLOB).
  • Insert images: Insert images. Alt-value based on values from the Database. Paging. Search for images. Image description.
This version are made from different versions of 2.03, so it's also lot's of other functions included. I think functions made of Luis and Redspider are included, thank's to them. I'm not sure because I have "jumped" between different versions of 2.03. Also thank's to Randy_23 for some help he gave me. If some information or right's aren't correct, please let me know.

This version was originally made to suit my own needs, I have rewritten most of the "special-parts in a hurry" to make it available to others. Because this is a rewritten version there are probably bugs. Don't email me about them because I haven't time to improve them, the readme file and the comment's I have made should be enough if you find bugs.

Possible improvements:
Yes there is. Fix messy ASP-coding especially. Other things are mentioned in the Readme file.

Download are approx 850 Kb and includes Readme-file and Database. I have commented all changes I have done. Because of the size of the file it's only available from my webpage.

Download and demo:

Have a nice weekend,

The formelement seems to be working though...

Re: [eisa] ASP: Pure ASP upload, Database-driven image-inserting for v. 2.03 [In reply to] Can't Post

Dude wicked variation I like the features.

I have a question though

I want to change the facility form just inserting images to inserting documents as well.

Now I have modified the sql query to display both the only problem I have is that I can not see where or how "<img src" is written as I want to change the HTML if a document is written to <"a href"

Any help would be appreciated

I really don't know, but it seems to me that PREVIEWPIC in the insert_image.asp file has something to do with this. You will also find IMG one place in the source-code, but just changing this will not help I think.

Since I put's documents together with my articles another way I don't need to use htmlArea to insert the document-URL into my article. (I make a databasen-driven relationship instead). Therefor I haven't digged into this, and I'm not clever with this kind of coding.

Sorry that I can't help you better.

I don't know why I have done this since I don't need it myself, but I have started with a Add-On for inserting links to files (something similar to those for PHP, but not that advanced). I have 2 working versions, one for my database version, and one for Browse File Dialog.

They are not perfect, but they work..

I will post more information, files and demo hopefully tomorrow. Now I'm to tired and they are not totally finished yet.

I think that is really great eisa!!!
Even if you don't need it yourself you have started to do it anyway, because you just couldn't let it go, right? :-)

I would be very interested if you post this solution to this forum, it would actually save a lot of work from a big site I am producing for a customer!

Thanx for your effort!

Don't know anything about CF but here is what you do (if you have downloaded the full version):

insert_image.asp
Isn't really a ASP-file, just call it insert_image.cfm or whatever...
Then change the name of the file inside the iframe-tag to image_list.cfm or whatever you wan't to call that file.

image_list.asp
I'm transferring two values from this file to the insert_image.asp file. The Heading and the URL.

The code:

strAlt1 = Replace(rsImages("FileHeading"),"'","`") 'Need to replace ' with `to avoid some trouble. rsImages("Fileheading") is the Heading-value
strAlt = Replace(strAlt1,"""","&quot;") 'Need to replace " with &quot; to avoid some more trouble
Response.Write strAlt 'Writes out the new Heading-value. strAlt is now the Heading-value

strName = "/" & Replace(rsImages("FileURL"),"\","/") 'Need to replace \ with /. Also notice that I store the URL in the DB without / in the beginning, therefor I put this value in front of my URL

'The sentence below transfers the Heading and URL values to the insert_image.asp file
Response.Write "<a href=""javascript:"" onClick=""top.document.forms[0].elements['txtAlt'].value='" & strAlt &"';top.document.forms[0].elements['ImgUrl'].value='" & strName &"';top.document.PREVIEWPIC.src='" & strName &"';"">" & strName & "</a>"

txtAlt: This value will be grabbed in the insert_image.asp file to be the Alternate-value (the same as the Heading).
ImgUrl: This value will be grabbed in the insert_image.asp file to be the URL.

Also notice that the Heading can't be empty, then you will get javascript-errors with this version.

Hope this helps.Smile

hi andrew, yeah we created an image upload in CF MX, it's not that robust yet, but maybe we can work it out together...

The upload in the demo is disabled, but the zip-file which I assume you have downloaded should work.

ImgDatabase.asp should be put into folder

/Connections/ImgDatabase.asp

The rest of the files will go into the folder

/htmlarea/

This should be explained in the readme-file readme_upload_insert.txt

I don't know what else could be wrong,- I assume you are running this on Windows and not on ex. chilliASP.

Also notice that some versions doesn't handle include virtual, if nothing else work's you could try to change the includes to
<!--#include file="../Connections/ImgDatabase.asp" -->

SmileDownloaded your modified version - This is a really great improvement. Been looking for something like this for ages.

FrownBut (there's always a but, right?!), when i installed it on my NT hosting account i can't seem to get the upload function to work. After filling in all the details and choosing the file, i press upload and get the following message:

Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a004c'

Path not found

/admin/htmlarea/popups/Loader.asp, line 68

This has really got me stumped!

Do you have any ideas on how to fix this problem and get it working?

Many thanks in advance!

Re: [kish] ASP: Pure ASP upload, Database-driven image-inserting for v. 2.03 [In reply to] Can't Post

I don't think the problem is in loader.asp, the problem is probably that you haven't made the folders where the uploaded files should be put.

Images will be uploaded to:
/files/images/

Documents will be uploaded to:
/files/documents/

If you have made those folders and it still doesn't work, there could be some problem with your read/write permissions on those folders perhaps.

If you wan't to upload to some other folders, look into upload_insert.asp from line 70.

Hope it helps.

Not sure what the problem is, but see this post:
http://www.interactivetools.com/forum/forum.cgi?post=9717

I have commented out editor_updateOutput(objname); as described in that post in my version, maybe you need to remove that commenting,- I really don't know.

You will find that code in line 1094.

Hope it helps.

Since I see people are asking about it, here are a possibility to delete images:

Insert this code into imagelist.asp, I have used it around line 496:

<a href="delfile.asp?FileURL=<%=rsImages("FileURL")%>&FileID=<%=rsImages("FileID")%>"><img src="/htmlarea/images/trash.gif" alt="Delete" width="15" height="15" border="0"></a>

Then put delfile.asp into the folder popups.

You can also use delfile.asp together with "Combined Insert Link and Link to File"

This delete-file are not included in the download from my page (yet), only from this forum.

Hi here Genuchten,

We are too developing a cms in CF MX, having a hard time doing the imageupload.

Could you show us what you've got so-far? We might be able to assist in developing a cf application.

hi that's great, what part are you having problems with?

i translated the code from asp to cf and added some options like renaming, deleting files.

get inspired by this file, which displays a filelist (windows gui) in the iframe in the img upload screen

Hi Eisa

This is a very good example of htmlarea, and i have just built it into my CMS. Wink

Just one thing I think that would make this version complete would be a 'Progress Bar', to show that user that the file is actually uploading.

What do you think?

Yes it is a good idea, unfortunately I haven't enough time to fix it right now. Maybe someone else have?

What also could be an improvement is that right now you have to sort images and documents manually. I have got a function from another person that have downloaded "my" version of htmlArea and rewritten that one a little bit. I will try to implement it in the demo version as soon as I find some spare time.
