Home: htmlArea 2: htmlArea 2 & 3 archive (read only): htmlArea v2.0 - Add-Ons:
Need both HTML and Plain TEXT output

The htmlArea 2 & 3 editors have been discontinued.

We've made these forums available as a read-only reference and knowledge-base for people using or developing editors based on htmlArea 2 or 3.

Anyone who is interested in taking over version 2 or 3 is free to do so. All we ask is that you choose a new name that doesn't have "htmlarea" in it to avoid confusion with this site. We'll even give you a link in the directory to make it easier for people to find you. If you are developing or hosting an htmlArea based-editor under a new name, please submit it to our directory.

Need both HTML and Plain TEXT output Can't Post

Although the primary use for htmlArea on our web site is for users to markup a textarea, our server side script needs to send the content of the form to many destinations most of which want marked up text, but one of which is wireless email with no html rendering capability.

Is there a way in htmlArea to generate both an HTML marked up version, as well as a plain TEXT version of the textarea right at source ? We could have another hidden field in the form for this purpose, and the htmlArea could populate both.

At the moment, we have to detag a copy of the HTML form on the server side, and that for us has been error prone. It would seem that this could be done easiest at the source.

Other suggestions are welcome.

(The server side is a JSP page)
