Some of Luis's features are unavailible for download

The htmlArea 2 & 3 editors have been discontinued.

We've made these forums available as a read-only reference and knowledge-base for people using or developing editors based on htmlArea 2 or 3.

Anyone who is interested in taking over version 2 or 3 is free to do so. All we ask is that you choose a new name that doesn't have "htmlarea" in it to avoid confusion with this site. We'll even give you a link in the directory to make it easier for people to find you. If you are developing or hosting an htmlArea based-editor under a new name, please submit it to our directory.

Some of Luis's features are unavailible for download Can't Post

I downloaded Luis's editor for use on the Hale Middle School Website (HaleMS.tk) and it works great except for one error. When the user clicks to add an image, they receive a javascript error. When previewed locally (With standard source files except those attached), the page loads fine. Any ideas?

Also, I was on Luis's htmlarea page www.webstationone.com/test/htmlarea and i noticed that it has several features not available in the download such as sending an email of the created document and several others. Is there any way that those updates could be made available to the public for download? Or at least for schools?

Thanks,

Hale Middle School Tech Club (Website Management)

P.S. Luis great work on your version of html area. It is excellent. Is it based on 2.0 or 3.0?

Hi mkapalan:

I think you are mixing files from two different mods. Your file upload.html is not suitable to the other files. I understand you are hard coding the images listing however, the code is very different to the original browseimage.php.

This is how a typical entry (in your upload.html file) should look:

<img hspace="2" src="images/gif.gif" alt="" border="0">
<a href="#" onClick="top.document.forms[0].elements['ImgUrl'].value='http://yourUrl/YourImgDir/ad_sample.gif'; top.document.PREVIEWPIC.src='http://yourUrl/YourImgDir/ad_sample.gif';">ad_sample.gif</a>
<FONT SIZE="-2">(8 Kb)</FONT><br>

Regarding the mods not included in my download version, I only need a gap in my schedule to update my files and post a new version. However not everything will be included. The Forms Editor and the Alpha-Roman and Bulleted Lists cannot be shared under any circumstances. I'm sorry. I don't own the rights. Anyway the new zip will be plenty of new features and bug fixes.

The e-mail ability you mention is not finished. Again, lack of time. I expect to have the time this weekend to post the updates. My editor is based on V2. (IE only).

Greetings.

Re: [Luis] Some of Luis's features are unavailible for download [In reply to] Can't Post

Luis - Thanks for the information!

NOTE: It is entirely your original editor with a few fixes due to bugs on the school districts server.

Also, the insert_image and upload files were modified to hand off the location of the image that is contained in the href tag on the upload page. For example, when the user clicks image1.jpg in the upload file, it will send (as a parameter) the url to a hidden field (text field with height and width set to 1px) at the bottom of the page. Then it triggers another action in insert_image that grabs the value from the hidden field and sets it to the Image Url. Finally, it changes the image to the new url and resizes it to fit in the window.

I would like to ask one more question. In your download, the full screen editor does not seem to work at all. Is there anything that must be configured so that it will work or is it a bug? NOTE: Active X is enabled. Also, is there any way for the editor to load on Macs with Internet Explorer (There are several teachers who will not give up their Macs just to use the editor)?

I noticed that it works fine online but not offline? Is this a flaw in javascript?

Hi Techie:

It's a bug. It seems that you cannot pass query strings (?) through modalWindows when working locally (??), therefore var parent_objname in fullscreen.html is passing blank. It works well when using window.open instead, the problem is that fullscreen mode runs extremely slow that way.

Here is the fix:

1. Set a global variable in editor.js, :

else if (cmdID == 'popupeditor') {
setGlobalVar('_editor_field',objname);
showModalDialog(_editor_url + "fullscreen.html?"+objname, window, "resizable: yes; help: no; status: no; scroll: no; ", 'popupeditor');
return;
}

1. In fullscreen.html, change the var parent_objname:

//var parent_objname = location.search.substring(1,location.search.length); // parent editor objname

with:

var parent_objname = opener.getGlobalVar('_editor_field');

Regarding your other question, as far as I know there is no chance it to work in Mac. It can run in Netscape any version with the help of a plugin, but you still need to have IE installed, so its not much of help.

Greetings.

What sort of plugin? Where can it be downloaded or installed from?

I have tested the editor in MSIE for MAC and it doesn't load the editor at all.

Thanks for the fix regarding the fullscreen editor. It is too late to do it tonight, I will attempt the changes tomorrow morning.

Hi Techie:

When I said Netscape any version, I really meant any PC version, even 4.7, but not MAC.

See this post for instructions on how to get the plugin.
