Support for Persian/Arabic language?

The htmlArea 2 & 3 editors have been discontinued.

We've made these forums available as a read-only reference and knowledge-base for people using or developing editors based on htmlArea 2 or 3.

Anyone who is interested in taking over version 2 or 3 is free to do so. All we ask is that you choose a new name that doesn't have "htmlarea" in it to avoid confusion with this site. We'll even give you a link in the directory to make it easier for people to find you. If you are developing or hosting an htmlArea based-editor under a new name, please submit it to our directory.

Support for Persian/Arabic language? Can't Post

Hello everyone,

I wonder if there is any add-on for htmlArea keyboard that supports Persian/Arabic language?

Thanks in advance for your attention,
Parham

Hi Parham,

Thanks for your post! I think there've been a couple of people who've integrated htmlArea with Arabic... if memory serves, the biggest issue was it being a RTL language. Take a look at this post, hopefully that'll help.

Hi ParhamNL!!

I have a Hebrew Keyboard integrated in HtmlArea, inspired in a French characters inserter developed by Benjamin. If you are interested, post me back to send you the code. You'll only need to replace the Hebrew characters with the corresponding Persian/Arabics.

Re: [Luis] Support for Persian/Arabic language? [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Luis and all,

I am quite new to htmlArea. I found it while checking out some phpNuke sites, and I was thrilled to find the wysiwyg editor. Now I am developing a CMS system for my own site, and htmlArea already integrates very nicely into it.

I came across this post... I am actually looking for a Hebrew support to htmlArea so I am glad that you have something similar that's already working. I am interested in the code, so if you can please send me instructions.

Re: [r_bester] Support for Persian/Arabic language? [In reply to] Can't Post

To enable left to right support is pretty straight forward:

1.- Add the button names to this.toolbar

'rtl','ltr',

2.- Add this two lines to this.btnList

"rtl": ['BlockDirRTL', 'Right to Left', 'editor_action(this.id)', 'ed_rtl.gif'],
"ltr": ['BlockDirLTR', 'Left to Right', 'editor_action(this.id)', 'ed_ltr.gif'],

3.- Create two graphics for LTR and RTL and put them in your images directory.

4.- Make a search for

// update button states
var IDList = Array('Bold','Italic','Underline','StrikeThrough','SubScript','SuperScript','JustifyLeft','JustifyCenter','JustifyRight','JustifyFull','JustifyNone','InsertOrderedList','InsertUnorderedList','BlockDirLTR','BlockDirRTL','MultipleSelection','LiveResize');

and add: 'BlockDirLTR','BlockDirRTL' to the array

and you are done.

For the Hebrew keyboard, just go to my test page:

http://webstationone.com/test/htmlarea

and copy the source code.

Hi Luis,

I created the graphics (actually copied from Word) and attached them below if anyone wishes to use them.

Does anyone know how to make them stay sunk when they are used? - for example like the justifyright button?

Hi r_bester:

Look for this line in your editor.js and append there the rtl, and ltr

// update button states
var IDList = Array('Bold','Italic','Underline','StrikeThrough','SubScript','SuperScript','JustifyLeft','JustifyCenter','JustifyRight','JustifyFull','JustifyNone','InsertOrderedList','InsertUnorderedList','BlockDirLTR','BlockDirRTL');

Hi weblogger:

It's hard to make a suggestion without seeing how you are calling the function. If you want, attach your files and I'll gladly take a look.

Greetings
