add-ons: who's working on what?

The htmlArea 2 & 3 editors have been discontinued.

We've made these forums available as a read-only reference and knowledge-base for people using or developing editors based on htmlArea 2 or 3.

Anyone who is interested in taking over version 2 or 3 is free to do so. All we ask is that you choose a new name that doesn't have "htmlarea" in it to avoid confusion with this site. We'll even give you a link in the directory to make it easier for people to find you. If you are developing or hosting an htmlArea based-editor under a new name, please submit it to our directory.

add-ons: who's working on what? Can't Post

Hi everyone!

At the prompting of "alert forum member" redspider, I thought I'd post a quick note to get people to identify who's working on what. This will hopefully reduce redundancy and provide a little more communication between coders.

So regardless of what you've changed / added - post it here! We'd all love to hear about it! Smile

Hi all,

I am also working on a new insert image dialog, with browsing folders and preview capabilities. It comes with a upload function as well (simple version and free, I will add an advanced upload routine later). Read my other post about the whole package it in V1.x forum. Actually it is ready and works fine (needs some minor adjustments along the way). Should have uploaded it here in late december but my computers harddrive crashed. Waiting for my compu to get back from repairment. The sources are backuped so everything is under control. I have come to an agreement with the author of the original browse folder/file script which where released under GNU GPL to release it under BSD to be fully compatible with htmlArea. Browsing, upload, preview routines coded in ASP.

Best regards // Pat!

Hi RedSpider (especiallyCool),

I havent been able to take a look at your approach to upload images until now(you know my crash eh!? Pirate). Since you posted a public address I took a look at it and I really liked your version. Maybe we should incorporate your and mine scripts into a more complete solution. Since your version inserts the images directly with upload and my version allows browsing the server + insert + upload, I think a combination would be awesome. Anyway I'll try to upload my scripts as soon as possible.

Best regards // Pat!

Hi Randy,

Thats ok for me i think your verion of inserting images is better than mine (i've seen your screenshot). I was working this evening on my version with image preview (see attach). It is still verry buggy and not completed but because i am not a prof. programmer i was already verry happy with te result.

Now that i know you are working on your version again, i will stop my "knick-knack" (dictionary word) work Wink

In my version you get an listing off files in a specific dir. and after you select a picture you must click the copy buttom to move te filename to the the image insert field. (i know thats not very handy).

At this moment i just was start to get de OK buttom sending te info form the URL field back to the Textarea.

Hi RedSpider and others...

The browse and insert images modification has been uploaded to a new 2.X thread (see/search for MOD: New browse image dialog!). The Insert image dialog code is compatible (with very few changes, only path changes) with 1.x for those still using 1.x.

Demo, downloads and notes in the other thread.

Improvements are very welcomed!

I'm working on:
  • Find function
  • Find & Replace function
  • As everybody else ... upload images (maybe we can make a little competition!)

I plan to work on:
  • Multilingual version.
  • Property palettes

The find function is finished (you can look at http://zemstlaar.port5.com/ww/editor.php , but ... I need a kind of global variable to hold the editor_field name into it. Solved it temporarily by adding a field next to the _editor_url field. But this means that the originating html-pages need to be changed! BTW, I solved the insert_table 'bug' - ( the one insert table does not function without any serverpage) on the same way.
Any ideas how to hold global variables accessible for child windows in an other way?

Re: [lvni900] add-ons: who's working on what? [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi lvni900,

I've wrestled with this a bit myself for some other DHTML I'm writing. I hacked together this temporary function to do the job for me:

function objStore(action, oName, oValue) { // load, save objects
if (this.cache == null) { this.cache = new Object(); }

if (action == 'save') { this.cache[oName] = oValue; }
else if (action == 'load') { return this.cache[oName]; }
else { return alert('Unknown action: ' + action); }
}

You can use it like this:

objStore('save', 'myVar', 'value here');
objStore('save', 'myVar', ['array','of','items']);
var tmp = objStore('load', 'myVar');

I'm not totally sure how I feel about where it stores data (as properties under the function, everything really is an object in javascript <grin>), but I figured I'd encapsulate it in a function and I could always change the storage location later if I came up with something better.

Of course, the child window can get values from the parent with opener.objStore('load', .... );

I'd welcome any feedback you have on this.

Awesome features in your page!!! Is there anyway that you'd make them available to other members of this site? Those table editing features are EXACTLY what we've been trying to get done.

Re: [Dave] add-ons: who's working on what? [In reply to] Can't Post

Dave, thanks that's realy fantastic!

It is realy what I needed, and it solves the insertTable-'bug':

at the end of editor.js i added the following code:

/* ---------------------------------------------------------------------- *\
Function : setGlobalVar
Description : set a variable in a global scope
Usage : setGlobalVar(varName, value);
Arguments : varName - name of the global variable to set
value - value of the global variable to set
\* ---------------------------------------------------------------------- */
function setGlobalVar(varName, value) {
if (this.cache == null) {this.cache = new Object();}
this.cache[varName] = value;
}
/* ---------------------------------------------------------------------- *\
Function : getGlobalVar
Description : get a variable in a global scope
Usage : value = getGlobalVar(varName);
Arguments : varName - name of the global variable to get
value - value of the global variable to get
\* ---------------------------------------------------------------------- */
function getGlobalVar(varName, value) {
if (this.cache == null) {
return null;
} else {
return this.cache[varName];
}
}

just before the showModalDialog of the insertTable I inserted a 'setGlobalvar'

"
// insert table
else if (cmdID.toLowerCase() == 'inserttable'){
setGlobalVar('_editor_field',objname); // set the global variable _editor_field
showModalDialog(_editor_url + "popups/insert_table.html?"+objname,
window,
"resizable: yes; help: no; status: no; scroll: no; ");
"
note: the ?+objname becomes redundant, but I let it like it was

afterwards in the insert_table.html i replaced the:

"var objname = location.search.substring(1,location.search.length);" by
"var objname = opener.getGlobalVar('_editor_field');"

All done! Finally insertTable works without a server page!

Interactive tools asked me to integrate them in their next version.

Either, copy all my modifications in the above attached editor.js either you'll have to wait untill next version.

I've been working on a little php image uploader...

I just finished updating the code to handle big image sizes...

You can find a test site to try it out for yourself at: http://www.student.uit.no/~paj022/test/index.php.
(The image gallery is on the ! button. Go ahead an upload and delete any pictures you want.)

The insertimage.php file should be attached and should be copied into the same directory as editor.js. Feel free to use it however you like. It uses the custom button options in htmlArea so it turns out to be fairly easy to install and use.

The javascript code for the custom button is:

Code
 popupWin = window.open(_editor_url + 'insertimage.php?textareaname='+objname, 'remote', 'status=no,scrollbars=yes,resizable=no,width=800,height=600,left=50,top=50');
if (popupWin.opener == null) popupWin.opener = top;

It's important to make sure the file permissions are set correctly on the directory you will be putting the images into.

Paul

PS. Up-to-date source code is on the site above.

Re: [pdjohe] add-ons: who's working on what? [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi y'all,

Like everyone else, I had been working on a PHP uploader. I was actually working on it a month back, planning to integrate it with the next release of htmlArea, but frankly there have been lots of other versions come out with better functionality, I canned the project and started work on some other stuff.

But what the heck, I thought I'd post it here anyway. Maybe someone could find a use for it :-) Of course anyone's free to modify the code in whatever way they want.

I chose to have a separate button for it - the upward arrow.

It's very much lightweight, but these are its features:

- 12 images per page, with a "next" & "previous" arrow appearing for additional pages.
- all images uploaded into a default "uploads" directory.
- choice for "preserve aspect ratio" in thumbnailed images.
- choice for "max file upload size"
- choice to directly insert image into htmlArea.

Very minimal functionality, but check out the above link for a demo.

I just updated the code tonight, and it's quite conceivable there's the odd bug. If you find one, post here or private message me.

Oh - and I should also note: this ISN'T interactivetools software! It's just a little image palette I wrote myself, so bug and pester ME about it, not the company! :-)

If you want to get it going on your machine, you'll need to do the following:

(1) download image_palette.php and image_options.html and plunk them in your /htmlarea/popups directory.
(2) download blank.jpg and ed_upload_images.gif and put them in your /htmlarea/images/ directory.
(3) in the htmlArea directory, create a new directory called "uploads".
(3) download the attached editor.js and copy it over your old one.

:-)

Hi all,

I'm no expert in this but I decided to add a popup for adding Form-elements.
However it's not generic because we use it to make custom mailforms for sites.

I'm also using the editor off-line in a delphi-project. (Did a quick solve for the tablebug but don't know it by heart and I'm not behind the compu with the source now, was something like passing the editor object and another var in an array tot the popup win.)

Special thanks to lvi900 and redspider for all there hard work (I've been lurking here for quite some time now)

Re: [basmul] add-ons: who's working on what? [In reply to] Can't Post

Hello All!

I've made some changes to the insert image dialog also.

Basically what i tried to do was to build a dialog that could change the image values after the image was placed, so, if you select the image and then click on the button again it will be filled with the values from the image. Also i tried to build a preview pane with a list of images from a predefined directory that a user can select from. Althought the preview doesn't quite work (sometimes you need to click it twice, because the image is downloading) you can change more values.

Any input or thoughts would be great.
Here is the address http://ilhavirtual.com/harea/temphtmlarea.html
Just insert an image and you'll see what i mean.

Cya,
Josť Machado
