Table handling version

The htmlArea 2 & 3 editors have been discontinued.

We've made these forums available as a read-only reference and knowledge-base for people using or developing editors based on htmlArea 2 or 3.

Anyone who is interested in taking over version 2 or 3 is free to do so. All we ask is that you choose a new name that doesn't have "htmlarea" in it to avoid confusion with this site. We'll even give you a link in the directory to make it easier for people to find you. If you are developing or hosting an htmlArea based-editor under a new name, please submit it to our directory.

Table handling version Can't Post

Hi, I've been working on some functions to make table handling possible (insert/delete rows, columns, cells)

In attachment you can find the editor.js file and the needed .gif icons.

Look in the source for //lvn: table actions (some other modifications are also in the source - see my previous postings.

Have as lot fun as I had making them.

Isn't open source great? ;=)

Hi lvni900,

Just wanted to confirm before I download it and try fiddling around with it ...

Does this version of the editor.js include all the modifications you've added? Or just the table modifications?

Is there a place where you have all the files together to download?

Thanks!

lvn, just had a look. That's absolutely outstanding! We've been wanting to add edit table features for some time but just haven't had a chance yet. You even linked them up to the right click context menu. That's really really great.

Is it ok for us to incorporate your changes into the next version?

For everyone who's curious, we've had a lot of great new features (and code) submitted in the forum for htmlarea, and even some new things we've (actually mostly just Ben, grin) been working on internally. We're going to wrap these up in a new 2.0x version soon.

Also, we have someone working on htmlArea 3.0, which will support Mozilla, so we're all very excited about that!

Hum, the only thing what´s needed to handle tables:

- merge cells
- split cells
- edit the basic-settings in table (cellspacing/padding/border/etc)

split cells = insert cell

merge cells = delete cell

or isn't it?

And of course, table, row and cell properties are next on my own desirelist? If you made them, let me know.

Re: [Dave] Table handling version [In reply to] Can't Post

Thanks for all the nice words, but in the meantime I did some testing (should have done it more before publishing!) The basic functions did work, but 'special' cases such as different number of details in more than one row, tags embedded in a table detail still gave problems.

I think I solved it all now, and even corrected the bug for the preview.

In attachment the whole zip containing all the files and icons: following changes are made:
cut copy paste print preview insertspecialcharacters show0tableborders tableoperations.

I have a version (in test) with a 'find' function, still I want to finish it completely and even more test it before publishing.

Of course you may incorporate my changes in your next version, that's what open source is for, isn't it? Even the sooner the better, that saves me to apply my changes again on your next version. And of course the comments containing 'lvn' may be deleted, they were just there to indicate what changes I made.

Best Regards, Leo Van Nieuwenhuyse

Great Work! :-).

Yes you´re right, i think we have htmlarea v2.5, is´nt it? :-).

with split cell´s you get something like:
"
<table>
<tr>
<td colspan="2">foo</td>
</tr><tr>
<td>var</td>
<td>foo2</td>
</table>
"

i´m busy at the moment, but asap i´ll have a look at :-).

Oh, i found bug´s ^^.

If u click on the table border´s, i´ll get the message that the object doesn´t support this method in line 931 (should disable/enable the table-mod-buttons).

I found it, but can´t fix it :/

Indeed, when you select a control object (such as a picture) you get the message 'method not supported by this object', reason: I wanted to find the parentElement of the clicked node, and controlRanges do not support this.

Here's the fixed editor.js

Thx for testing it anyway!

I just downloaded the editor and the beta version. That is great work, thanks. Where could I find the additional buttons gif (print, preview, paste, show special characters and 0 border)?

Hi all,

I just made some more "Office based" icons (based on the basic Frontpage icons) for the table functions from "lvni900'.

The icon's are at 23px (width) and 22px (height)

Enjoy

Re: [lvni900] Table handling version [In reply to] Can't Post

Hello,

I've downloaded and extracted this zip to the proper htmlarea folder and set my pages, but when I insert a table and then select the whole thing (such as clicking on the edge of it to select the entire table), I get an error: Line: 931 Object doesn't support this property or method.

Can you tell me what's wrong? I really like the functionality of the table editing here, but I don't want errors popping up on my users machine. I'm sure this is something simple that I can fix.

Thanks,

John

You 've got the first version including the first bug.

You can find the corrected version in this same forum under the posting 'Find Function'

Would it be possible to add a 'merge cells' button? This is something I use a great deal with tables. I realise that it's not trivial to do since there doesn't appear to be a way of highlighting cells to be merged.
