pictures from our computer

The htmlArea 2 & 3 editors have been discontinued.

We've made these forums available as a read-only reference and knowledge-base for people using or developing editors based on htmlArea 2 or 3.

Anyone who is interested in taking over version 2 or 3 is free to do so. All we ask is that you choose a new name that doesn't have "htmlarea" in it to avoid confusion with this site. We'll even give you a link in the directory to make it easier for people to find you. If you are developing or hosting an htmlArea based-editor under a new name, please submit it to our directory.

pictures from our computer Can't Post

With each add-on, I like htmlArea more and more. I would be so happy if we could create web pages with pictures from our computer:

Re: [prenaud] pictures from our computer [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Pierre:

Here is the solution. Pretty easy!

In your insert_image.html popup, just replace the type of the URL box:

<DIV id=divFileName style="left: 0.98em; top: 1.2168em; width: 7em; height: 1.2168em; ">Image URL:</DIV>
<INPUT ID=txtFileName type=text style="left: 8.54em; top: 1.0647em; width: 21.5em;height: 2.1294em; " tabIndex=10 onfocus="select()">

with:

<DIV id=divFileName style="left: 0.98em; top: 1.2168em; width: 7em; height: 1.2168em; ">Image URL:</DIV>
<INPUT ID=txtFileName type=file style="left: 8.54em; top: 1.0647em; width: 21.5em;height: 2.1294em; " tabIndex=10 onfocus="select()">

The box can still be used to insert images from the web, typing in the complete URL.

Re: [Luis] pictures from our computer [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi,

You asked to change the input type=text to input type=file.This will just select the file path. If same page is opened in different machine the image will not be seen if that image does not exist in that machine. So to avoid this we have to upload the image to server and assign that url to <img> tag. So how can we give this upload functionality ?

Cool! Thanks Luis.

There a couple problems however. As you can see on my test page, you can't edit the image anymore:

http://members.shaw.ca/gogreen/ezHTMLarea/index2.html

Also, when we save the page, it keeps the whole path of the image:

src="C:\WINDOWS\Desktop\images\cats.jpg"

Is there any way the path could be changed in the saving process?

src="images\cats.jpg"

Hi Pierre:

Yes, you're right.
To make it work the same for remote images than for local images requires other major modifications. I'll try something this weekend.

Greetings

Re: [manu] pictures from our computer [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Manu:
Yes. This is what Prenaud asked for, because he doesn't have a server and creates Webpages to be seen locally in his computer just by him.

If you are looking for upload functionality and a real image manager, search here in the forum. I remember 3 or 4 very good, some in PHP, others in ASP.

Search for Dsearles, Eisa, ATK, or Tzvook. There is another one very nice which I don't remember who made it (a Dutch guy).

Greetings.

Thanks Luis.

Actually, I know of a few people who use ezHTMLarea as their HTML editor in order to create web pages on their computer. That's why I brought up this topic. It would certainly not be my first choice but I guess it's better than nothing at all. I have yet to find a decent free WYSIWYG HTML editor.

Hi again Pierre:

You know what?
I just remembered that what you are looking for already exists, with preview ability and everything. Search the forum. I'm pretty sure to have seen that post and the demo.

I'll do it myself as soon as I get home this evening.

I was affraid my memory was not working any more. Fortunatelly not.

This is the thread where the download is.

http://www.interactivetools.com/forum/gforum.cgi?post=13134

It has preview and rezise ability and also retrieves the values for editing. The only thing it doesn't do is to fix the path to be relative. I'm going to play a little bit with it this weekend.

(Download it yourself so you don't get more ghost files)

Greetings

Hi Prenaud,

I have seen your work and it is beautiful. I tried to download it file by file, but the popups can't open. Perhaps you can make a zip file?

by the way. Can this version upload images? Or is it just for making local files?

thanx,

Arno

Thanks Arno,

I don't have time to clean up my mess and make a zip file. Sorry.

Maybe you can use "Save Target As" with the right-click?

This version doesn't upload images. You may want to have a look at Luis' work:

thanx anyway,

Luis made something beautiful too. Only he made it in PHP. I can only use ASP on my server.
I used "Save Target As" with the right-click button, but the popups fails to show text.

Maybe, you find some time in the future????

greetings,
Arno
