Problem using plugins

The htmlArea 2 & 3 editors have been discontinued.

We've made these forums available as a read-only reference and knowledge-base for people using or developing editors based on htmlArea 2 or 3.

Anyone who is interested in taking over version 2 or 3 is free to do so. All we ask is that you choose a new name that doesn't have "htmlarea" in it to avoid confusion with this site. We'll even give you a link in the directory to make it easier for people to find you. If you are developing or hosting an htmlArea based-editor under a new name, please submit it to our directory.

Problem using plugins Can't Post

First of I'd like to say hello, since this is my first post here Smile

The reason I registered just now is because I can't get plugin's for this kewl stuff to work. I get a javascript-debug error and the entire textarea shows up like a normal one, no wysiwyg.

Some code:

Code

var editor = null;

function initEditor()
{
HTMLArea.loadPlugin("TableOperations");

editor = new HTMLArea("content");
editor.registerPlugin(TableOperations);
editor.generate();
}

Hi,

make sure your textarea has id="content" and that the init function is called onload.

<body onLoad="initEditor()">

Hi,

put the loadPlugin outside of your init function:

Code
 HTMLArea.loadPlugin("TableOperations");
function initEditor()
{
...

And sorry, I can't say anything about the image-manager cause I use my own functions for this which are not directly integrated in htmlarea.

So next question.
Did you get the htmlarea without the plugin?

So I think you have to post your complete code...

(not htmlarea.js, but the side with the textarea)

var editor = null;function initEditor()
{
editor = new HTMLArea("content");
editor.registerPlugin(TableOperations);
editor.generate();
}function insertHTML()
{
var html = prompt("Enter some HTML code here");
if (html) {
editor.insertHTML(html);
}
}function highlight()
{
editor.surroundHTML('<span style="background-color: yellow">', '</span>');
}</script></head>
<body class="text" bgcolor="#FDFDFD" leftmargin="0" topmargin="0" rightmargin="0" bottommargin="0" onload="initEditor()">... <table style="width: 100%" border="0" cellspacing="5" cellpadding="0" class="outline" bgcolor="#E6E6E6">

In Reply To
<script type="text/javascript" src="editor/htmlarea.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="editor/lang/en.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="editor/dialog.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="editor/plugins/TableOperations/table-operations.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
HTMLArea.loadPlugin("TableOperations");

So the question is, what version you are using.
The newest version loads the language file and the dialog.js by itself. Also the loadPlugin function loads the requested plugin.js!
If you have an older version don't use

Code
HTMLArea.loadPlugin("TableOperations");

else don't use

Code
<script type="text/javascript" src="editor/lang/en.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="editor/dialog.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="editor/plugins/TableOperations/table-operations.js"></script>

The newer version also needs defined values of
_editor_url = "...";
_editor_lang = "...";
If you don't have these variables you might have an older version.

Re: [RJ] Problem using plugins [In reply to] Can't Post

So you should take a look in the examples-folder from your download.

I think you have to use

editor.registerPlugin("TableOperations");

in the init function.
And you only have to remove

HTMLArea.loadPlugin("TableOperations");

Re: [RJ] Problem using plugins [In reply to] Can't Post

Well.. I have the same problem, I just don't understand how to register plugins. I want to use the CharacterMap plugin.

Code
function initEditor() {

editor.registerPlugin("CharacterMap");

I also loaded the plugin (before initEditor):

Code
HTMLArea.loadPlugin("CharacterMap");

In IE I get the error: 'Htmlarea not defined'
In Firefox I get no error, but the title of the page is: [HTMLArea: loading plugin 10/11]

In htmlarea.js I added:

Code
		charactermap: [ "Characters", "ed_charmap.gif", false, function(e) {e.execCommmand("charactermap");} ],

and:

Code
	    case "charactermap": this._CharacterMap(); break;

What am I doing wrong?
