How to completely remove status bar?

The htmlArea 2 & 3 editors have been discontinued.

We've made these forums available as a read-only reference and knowledge-base for people using or developing editors based on htmlArea 2 or 3.

Anyone who is interested in taking over version 2 or 3 is free to do so. All we ask is that you choose a new name that doesn't have "htmlarea" in it to avoid confusion with this site. We'll even give you a link in the directory to make it easier for people to find you. If you are developing or hosting an htmlArea based-editor under a new name, please submit it to our directory.

How to completely remove status bar? Can't Post

I've changed line 38 of htmlarea.js to

this.statusBar = false;

and I'm setting up my htmlAreas using

var config = new HTMLArea.Config();
config.statusBar = false;

HTMLArea.replace('ResearchInterests', config);

This has removed the path link from the bottom of the htmlAreas, but still leaves the text "Path:"

Space is short on the page I'm desiging, so I would really like to remove the whole status line, in order to allow my htmlAreas to be bigger. How can I do this please?

Re: [Martin_Edney] How to completely remove status bar? [In reply to] Can't Post

I found that setting line 38 of htmlarea.js to

this.statusBar = false;

removed the path information from the status bar, but didn't remove the whole status bar (I was left with "Path:" on the bottom of my htmlAreas, which I really didn't want).

The only way I've found to remove this "Path:" completely is to comment out line 533 of htmlarea.js, i.e. change

div.appendChild(document.createTextNode(HTMLArea.I18N.msg["Path"] + ": "));

to

// div.appendChild(document.createTextNode(HTMLArea.I18N.msg["Path"] + ": "));

(this line appears in the function definition of HTMLArea.prototype._createStatusBar)

Let me know if you know of a better way to achieve this...

I did it this way :

HTMLArea.prototype._createStatusBar = function() {
var div = document.createElement("div");
div.className = "statusBar";
this._htmlArea.appendChild(div);
this._statusBar = div;
div.appendChild(document.createTextNode(HTMLArea.I18N.msg["Path"] + ": "));
if (!this.config.statusBar) {
// disable it...
div.style.display = "none";
}
// creates a holder for the path view
div = document.createElement("span");
div.className = "statusBarTree";
this._statusBarTree = div;
this._statusBar.appendChild(div);
if (!this.config.statusBar) {
// disable it...
div.style.display = "none";
}
};

which allow me to have either all or nothing, because the way you did, you never have the "Path:" anymore.

In my init function, which runs on HTMLArea.onload, after the

Code
editor.generate();

I added

Code
editor._statusBar.style.display = 'none';

I've done the same in some places for the toolbar,

Code
editor._toolbar.style.display = 'none';

,
so that the Area really looks like a textarea at first glance, allowing for keys and context menus for rich text formatting.

In your config settings you can state this:

editor
.config.statusBar = false;

in htmlarea.css I added a line after

.htmlarea .statusBar {

to say

display: none;
