html Area 3 RC1 flicker problem

The htmlArea 2 & 3 editors have been discontinued.

We've made these forums available as a read-only reference and knowledge-base for people using or developing editors based on htmlArea 2 or 3.

Anyone who is interested in taking over version 2 or 3 is free to do so. All we ask is that you choose a new name that doesn't have "htmlarea" in it to avoid confusion with this site. We'll even give you a link in the directory to make it easier for people to find you. If you are developing or hosting an htmlArea based-editor under a new name, please submit it to our directory.

The htmlArea seems to work ok, but I have this flickering problem. Below is the link to the video from my screen capture of the flicker.

Any help would be nice.

Thanks,
Aditya

not much help, but i suspect no one is answering because we dont get the problem our selves

if you posted a link to your code then perhaps we could take a look at it - you dont say what plugins your using or anything so with out any detail its immposible to say.

I am sorry I didn't reply sooner.

I am using XP Home Edition: SP2
Browser = Firefox 1.0

Code
<!-- Configure the path to the editor. We make it relative now, so that the
example ZIP file will work anywhere, but please NOTE THAT it's better to
have it an absolute path, such as '/htmlarea/'. -->
<script type="text/javascript">
_editor_url = "htmlArea/";
_editor_lang = "en";
</script>

<!-- load the main HTMLArea file, this will take care of loading the CSS and
other required core scripts. -->
<script type="text/javascript" src="htmlArea/htmlarea.js"></script>

<!-- load the plugins -->
<script type="text/javascript">
// WARNING: using this interface to load plugin
// will _NOT_ work if plugins do not have the language
// loaded by HTMLArea.

// In other words, this function generates SCRIPT tags
// that load the plugin and the language file, based on the
// global variable HTMLArea.I18N.lang (defined in the lang file,
// in our case "lang/en.js" loaded above).

// If this lang file is not found the plugin will fail to
// load correctly and nothing will work.

HTMLArea.loadPlugin("TableOperations");
HTMLArea.loadPlugin("SpellChecker");
HTMLArea.loadPlugin("FullPage");
HTMLArea.loadPlugin("CSS");
HTMLArea.loadPlugin("ContextMenu");

</script>

<script type="text/javascript">
var editor = null;
function initEditor() {

// create an editor for the "ta" textbox
editor = new HTMLArea("item_text");

// register the FullPage plugin
editor.registerPlugin(FullPage);

// register the SpellChecker plugin
editor.registerPlugin(TableOperations);

// register the SpellChecker plugin
//editor.registerPlugin(SpellChecker);

// register the CSS plugin
editor.registerPlugin(CSS, {
combos : [
{ label: "Syntax:",
// menu text // CSS class
options: { "None" : "",
"Code" : "code",
"String" : "string",
"Comment" : "comment",
"Variable name" : "variable-name",
"Type" : "type",
"Reference" : "reference",
"Preprocessor" : "preprocessor",
"Keyword" : "keyword",
"Function name" : "function-name",
"Html tag" : "html-tag",
"Html italic" : "html-helper-italic",
"Warning" : "warning",
"Html bold" : "html-helper-bold"
},
context: "pre"
},
{ label: "Info:",
options: { "None" : "",
"Quote" : "quote",
"Highlight" : "highlight",
"Deprecated" : "deprecated"
}
}
]
});

// add a contextual menu
//editor.registerPlugin("ContextMenu");

// load the stylesheet used by our CSS plugin configuration
//editor.config.pageStyle = "@import url(custom.css);";

setTimeout(function() {
editor.generate();
}, 500);
return false;
}

function insertHTML() {
var html = prompt("Enter some HTML code here");
if (html) {
editor.insertHTML(html);
}
}
function highlight() {
editor.surroundHTML('<span style="background-color: yellow">', '</span>');
}
</script>

The code above goes above my form with the textarea

Code
<script>
initEditor();
</script>

The code above is at the bottom of my page, below the form with the textarea. It seemed to work.. but it flickers as I said.

Thanks
Aditya

Do you have some sort of skinning application running ? The dropdown's doesn't look like your ordinary WinXP.

there was a dropdown in there?
Anyways, I skin my XP copy. I patched my uxtheme.dll. So its not some external program running. ITs just XP skinning.

I tried switching back to XP Luna, but it still flickers. Should the visual style matter though?

No idea - appearently not.

I got absolutely no clue as to what is happening. Is htmlarea the only thing running on the page ? do you have any wierd plugins or extensions in firefox ?.

Re: [adityagaddam] html Area 3 RC1 flicker problem [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi,

I have been experimenting with this product as we are very eager to get a Html Area boxto work that is compatible with Mozilla which seems to be a rare phenomenon.

However, I am having all sorts of problems with this thing in Mozilla one of which is the problem you are talking about here.

It flickers whenever you click on it, or type something into it.

I am using Firefox 1.0 / Windows 2000 SP4.

cheers,

I am experiencing this as well. Only with firefix. I actually think it is do to a firefox update or plugin I installed... because this problem once did not exist.
