Win98 IE6.0 Hangs

The htmlArea 2 & 3 editors have been discontinued.

We've made these forums available as a read-only reference and knowledge-base for people using or developing editors based on htmlArea 2 or 3.

Anyone who is interested in taking over version 2 or 3 is free to do so. All we ask is that you choose a new name that doesn't have "htmlarea" in it to avoid confusion with this site. We'll even give you a link in the directory to make it easier for people to find you. If you are developing or hosting an htmlArea based-editor under a new name, please submit it to our directory.

Win98 IE6.0 Hangs Can't Post

I have a problem with win98 and ie6 6.0.2800.1106 SP1

Loading and closing htmlrea V3.0 works fine, but when I load either tableOpreations Plugin or contextMenu Plugin the browser crashes. The crash doesn't occur until the window containing htmlArea is closed and you click another link, or the browser is redirected by script.

I tried all updates on windows update and the about screen now shows Q837009; Q832894; Q313829; Q831167
The browser still crashes

Both Windows and IE are Danish versions, though i suspect the same error in the international versions.

Any ideas/solutions to this problem

Exact same problem with English version of Windows 98. It only happens on win98. I've tried windows 2000 and windows xp, and they are fine.

[update]

I think i made a boo boo... IT seemed to fix it but after a restart the problem re-occurred.

*continues on quest for fixing this problem*

[/update]

I Think i've found the sollution for the problem..... (i had the same problem since I'm unfortunate enough to have to work on a win98 workstation at work)

I replaced the following in the htmlarea.js file

Code

window.onunload = function() {

editor._textArea.value = editor.getHTML();

}

with

Code

window.onunload = function() {

editor._textArea.value = editor.getHTML();

window.location = "about:blank";

};

And now my browser keeps going and going [/duracel battery commercial]

Could someone check if this fixes the problem for everybody else?

Re: [musee] Win98 IE6.0 Hangs [In reply to] Can't Post

I did the following :

I made an html file with the following code (wysiwyg.html << you could make this your website and then go to your wysiywg editor ;) )

Code
  <body topmargin=0 leftmargin=0>
<iframe src="wysiwyg.html"
height="100%" width="100%">
</iframe>
</body>

Then i edited the htmlarea.js file and edited the :

Code
  window.onunload = function() {
editor._textArea.value = editor.getHTML();
}

to

Code
  window.onunload = function() {
wait(1000);
alert('geslossen!');
editor._iframe.src = "";
window.href ="about:blank";
/* editor._textArea.value = editor.getHTML();
*/
};

On my machine it keeps going and going and i've even rebooted 5 times in a row to see if it wasn't just a fluke like last time.... Now i'm going to leave my pc on for an hour or so .. do a little surfing and then i'll go check what happens.

The problem seems to only occurs if you have another instance of IE running. Perhaps its a resources problem ? (196mb ram.... shouldn't be the problem.... eh...)
Perhaps there are too many variables declared and they can't be "unset" before the browser closes.

Its very strance since some people seem to have the problem and some people don't (All win98 machines)

p.s. thanks for testing ;)

p.p.s. IS there a bugtrack for htmlarea and is this a known problem ?

Re: [angel] Win98 IE6.0 Hangs [In reply to] Can't Post

Hello,

Thanks for your informations. I think, like you, that the problem come when another instance of IE is running.

A solution for all people who want to work with htmlarea 3 with Windows 98 is to get Avant Browser. There is no problem with this browser, and i think that it is because it don't open new window but it work in the same...

(sorry for my bad english !Blush)

Thanks and I will test all other solution Smile

Bye from France
