*sheepish* Modding buttonbar?

The htmlArea 2 & 3 editors have been discontinued.

We've made these forums available as a read-only reference and knowledge-base for people using or developing editors based on htmlArea 2 or 3.

Anyone who is interested in taking over version 2 or 3 is free to do so. All we ask is that you choose a new name that doesn't have "htmlarea" in it to avoid confusion with this site. We'll even give you a link in the directory to make it easier for people to find you. If you are developing or hosting an htmlArea based-editor under a new name, please submit it to our directory.

*sheepish* Modding buttonbar? Can't Post

Hi all.

First, to the developers of htmlArea:
U IZ DA BOMB! U R TEH WIN!! I LUB J00!!! K THX BYE.

Having said that, I humbly request your assistance with a small problem. I currently have htmlArea working as part of PHP-based content management system. On certain pages, I need to mod the button bar (to remove some unnecessary features), but I want to do it in the initEditor script called from body::onload(), to avoid breaking everything else. I don't want to change the htmlarea.js file because the changes aren't global... it depends which page I'm on.

I've tried this:

var editor = null;
function initEditor() {
editor = new HTMLArea("ta");
config = new Object();
config.toolbar = [
['bold','italic','underline','separator'],
['strikethrough','subscript','superscript','separator'],
['justifyleft','justifycenter','justifyright','separator'],
['OrderedList','UnOrderedList','Outdent','Indent','separator'],
['forecolor','backcolor','separator'],
['HorizontalRule','Createlink','InsertImage','htmlmode',
---------------->'separator'],
['about','help']
];
editor.generate("description",config); // Description is the
// name of the textearea.
}

It doesn't work and I'm sure it's because of the editor.generate(,) call. What should I be doing? Any help appreciated.

Hey creysoft,

I'm also using HTMLArea in a PHP content management system and needed to add and remove buttons for different users, configurations etc so I put together a PHP plugin based mod of HTMLArea which lets you do this rather easily.

You can take a look at the forum here to see if its what your after.
