Home: htmlArea 3 (beta): htmlArea 2 & 3 archive (read only): htmlArea v3.0 - Discussion:
'HTMLArea.l18N.tooltips' is null or not an object'

The htmlArea 2 & 3 editors have been discontinued.

We've made these forums available as a read-only reference and knowledge-base for people using or developing editors based on htmlArea 2 or 3.

Anyone who is interested in taking over version 2 or 3 is free to do so. All we ask is that you choose a new name that doesn't have "htmlarea" in it to avoid confusion with this site. We'll even give you a link in the directory to make it easier for people to find you. If you are developing or hosting an htmlArea based-editor under a new name, please submit it to our directory.

'HTMLArea.l18N.tooltips' is null or not an object' Can't Post

When trying to use HTMLArea with Movabletype 2.64 and I get this JavaScript error when trying to load the page:

"HTMLArea.l18N.tooltips' is null or not an object"
  • HTMLArea is in my '/mt-static/htmlarea/' directory.
  • I am using IE6-Win2K
  • The website is being hosting on a linux shared host.

Here is what I added to my edit_entry.tmpl:

Code

<script src="<TMPL_VAR NAME=STATIC_URI>htmlarea/htmlarea.js" language="JavaScript1.2"></script>
<script src="<TMPL_VAR NAME=STATIC_URI>htmlarea/htmlarea-lang-en.js" language="JavaScript1.2"></script>
<script src="<TMPL_VAR NAME=STATIC_URI>htmlarea/dialog.js" language="JavaScript1.2"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
<!--
function initEditor()
{
var editor_config = new HTMLArea.Config();
editor_config.editorURL = "<TMPL_VAR NAME=STATIC_URI>htmlarea";
editor = new HTMLArea( "taha", editor_config );
editor.generate();
}
//-->
</script>

...

<textarea<TMPL_IF NAME=AGENT_MOZILLA> cols=""</TMPL_IF> class="width500" id="taha"
name="text" rows="<TMPL_IF NAME=DISP_PREFS_SHOW_EXTENDED>10<TMPL_ELSE>20</TMPL_IF>"
wrap="virtual"><TMPL_VAR NAME=TEXT></textarea>

Here is the HTML that is generated:

Code
 <script src="/mt-static/htmlarea/htmlarea.js" language="JavaScript1.2"></script>
<script src="/mt-static/htmlarea/htmlarea-lang-en.js" language="JavaScript1.2"></script>
<script src="/mt-static/htmlarea/dialog.js" language="JavaScript1.2"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
<!--
function initEditor()
{
var editor_config = new HTMLArea.Config();
editor_config.editorURL = "/mt-static/htmlarea";
editor = new HTMLArea( "taha", editor_config );
editor.generate();
}
//-->
</script>

...

<textarea class="width500" id="taha" name="text" rows="20" wrap="virtual">

I've attached the two files in case there is something I am not seeing. Has anyone else had a similar problem or have any suggestions?

TIA,

Faust

Re: [aristodemus] 'HTMLArea.l18N.tooltips' is null or not an object' [In reply to] Can't Post

i have got the same problem!

but I think the problem is the path, because i include the htmlArea in the index.php in the root dir.
and the htmlArea is in the modules/htmlarea/ -

i have set the path in the htmlarea.js:

first:

Code
    this.pageStyle = "body { background-color: #fff; font-family: verdana,sans-serif; }";
if (typeof _editor_url != "undefined") {
this.editorURL = "_editor_url";
} else {
this.editorURL = "";
}

where is the defination of _editor_url???

then

Code

this.pageStyle = "body { background-color: #fff; font-family: verdana,sans-serif; }";
if (typeof _editor_url != "undefined") {
this.editorURL = "modules/htmlarea/";
} else {
this.editorURL = "modules/htmlarea/";
}

now it works better then bevore, there are grafs but a javascripterror 'HTMLArea.l18N.tooltips' is null or not an object'

in the index.php i include the header.php ther i include the javascript.php (htmlarea javascript-includes) and in the onload object of the body i replace the textareas.

sorry for my bad english, but i hope someone can help us!!
