TableOperations plugin

The htmlArea 2 & 3 editors have been discontinued.

We've made these forums available as a read-only reference and knowledge-base for people using or developing editors based on htmlArea 2 or 3.

Anyone who is interested in taking over version 2 or 3 is free to do so. All we ask is that you choose a new name that doesn't have "htmlarea" in it to avoid confusion with this site. We'll even give you a link in the directory to make it easier for people to find you. If you are developing or hosting an htmlArea based-editor under a new name, please submit it to our directory.

TableOperations plugin Can't Post

Hi all,

Lately I've been working on adding some features to allow better operations with tables. This work was sponsored by Zapatec Inc..

The code would go into the main release, but until then it's available in CVS under the branch "table-devel". I'm also attaching an archive for your testing pleasure ;-)

Cheers,

Re: [mishoo] TableOperations plugin [In reply to] Can't Post

Great!

But:

1.) Why are the Files in JS? (modify cell/table/etc) ?
2.) some minor bug´s are in there

Bugs

Win2ksp3/IE6

CellProperties onclick: "ungültiger Zeiger"/"invalid pointer "

mark the cell: "the object does not support this characteristic or method "

split row/split cell/split columns are always inactive?

merge cell´s give an "length is null or not object"-error

I think i´ll reactivate my sourceforge-account :)

Hi Mishoo Smile

You did a great work on this tool.

BTW I attached to this mail the table-operations-lang-fr.js I translated. Hope it helps.

Well, I've been thinking about how to make internationalization easier for dialog boxes, and the natural way was to generate the dialogs from JS code. Another advantage is that user doesn't make a server request when some dialog is needed. It's all there, in JS. I really think it's better.

Thanks for the bug reports.

Re: [mishoo] TableOperations plugin [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi again,

I started to play with htmlArea and I felt the need to use a file stylesheet because using stylesheet in plain text is not convenient for me.

So I added this feature to htmlArea. As I think it may be useful to others, I release it here. Hope it will help.Smile

Update
-----------
After taking a look at the expanded options in 3.0, it does look like it may have the features that I need discussed below. Looks somewhat overwhelming, I'll have to study the examples - thanks.
------------------------------
Any chance that the final TableOperations plugin would incorporate the facility to edit table structure - add / delete rows and columns ? Edit individual table cells properties such as background and alignment?

Just asking ....
Dave

I don't know, might be useful. I'll think about adding it to main trunk, after all the changes are minimal. Thanks!

No? Version 3 was rewritten from scratch and it has an entirely different architecture than 2.x, not backward compatible. Which in turn means that any plugins or extensions written for 3.0 will not work on 2.x.

But why are you interested? Can't you just upgrade to HTMLArea-3? (it's much better Wink).

I know that 3 is much better and faster.
Smile

And now I know that the great table operatons only works on 3. I think I will upgrade to version 3.

Thanks for the fast reaction.

I've got one question.
Because it is still in Alpha, is it a stable release..??

I don't think so. You could try, but it's probably waste of time.

hello mishoo!

thank you for this great tool! Smile

i think it's better to write the HTML code into a normal file and the JavaScript-functions into the head of the document. just like in "/popups/insert_table.html" or "/popups/insert_image.html". so, it's easier for other developers to change the appearence or the arrangement of the dialog windows. i think the translation-function __dlg_translate is great! it's very effective! maybe there is a way to parse html files like templates, like the FastTemplate-class for php (or perl) does? i think that will be a nice feature ;)

ok, now i've got some questions/bugreports for the TableOperations plugin:

1) i inserted a table into my document (default values)
2) i changed the borderwidth to 2 pixels (in table properties dialog)

but now the table border disappears! it seems the dialog sets all the default values to the table. i have to set the "frames" to "All four sides" and "rules" to "Rules will appear between all rows and columns" to "style" the table as i want it to. maybe the tableinsert- and tableproperties-dialog should be the same, because i was very surprised about the differences between these two dialogs. further the "border-collapse"-property don't work properly. in mozilla the change doesn't take any effect and in IE (tested version: 6) the property isn't read by the script. (the checkbox isn't checked after change and reopening the dialog).

do you revise the table operations or is this part of the great htmlarea is closed?

thanks for reading, have a nice day! Sly

edit:
got 2 more hints:
1) if i select a table in the editor and press delete-key or backspace, an error occurs in the function "prototype.ie_checkBackspace"
2) in mozilla firefox i can't delete a table in this way. i' tried to position the cursor before and behind the table and tried del or backspace, but nothing happens. i have to delete cell by cell... please help! thanks! =)
