controlling width of htmlarea

The htmlArea 2 & 3 editors have been discontinued.

We've made these forums available as a read-only reference and knowledge-base for people using or developing editors based on htmlArea 2 or 3.

Anyone who is interested in taking over version 2 or 3 is free to do so. All we ask is that you choose a new name that doesn't have "htmlarea" in it to avoid confusion with this site. We'll even give you a link in the directory to make it easier for people to find you. If you are developing or hosting an htmlArea based-editor under a new name, please submit it to our directory.

controlling width of htmlarea Can't Post

Hi

My HTML has the line

<textarea id="ta" name="ta" style="width:512; height:400">
$Content
</textarea><br>

and when the page loads I can see before htmlarea loads that the textarea is infact 512px, but when htmlarea loads, it expands to the full page width, which is not what I want.

any clues as to why?

Thanks

James

Re: [zz.james] controlling width of htmlarea [In reply to] Can't Post

HTMLArea has its own width command, so you'll need to include something like

IncludeThisScript(CRLF + [<script type="text/javascript" >] ;
+ CRLF + [ var config = new HTMLArea.Config(); ] ;
+ CRLF + " config.width='" + DesiredWidth + "';" ;
+ CRLF + [HTMLArea.replace('] + YourObjectName + [',config); ] ;
+ CRLF + [</script>] )

where IncludeThisScript is some function that you use to Include a script in your html output

This is documented in the Reference.html that comes with HTMLArea

Hope it helps

Reg

Thanks a lot. Should really have read the doc thoroughly but I'm under pressure to deliver some demo, sorry and thanks again

Not a problem -- do it myself more than I care to admit
