htmlarea 3.0 - Release Candidate 2b *UPDATED*

The htmlArea 2 & 3 editors have been discontinued.

We've made these forums available as a read-only reference and knowledge-base for people using or developing editors based on htmlArea 2 or 3.

Anyone who is interested in taking over version 2 or 3 is free to do so. All we ask is that you choose a new name that doesn't have "htmlarea" in it to avoid confusion with this site. We'll even give you a link in the directory to make it easier for people to find you. If you are developing or hosting an htmlArea based-editor under a new name, please submit it to our directory.

     htmlarea 3.0 - Release Candidate 2b *UPDATED*

Hello All,

As promised here is htmlarea 3.0 RC2.

This version has Mishoo's latest fixes, but we still expect to find issues. So please report any bugs (and fixes if possible) to the bugs forum. To keep things organized prefix your post with "RC2: " so we know you're testing the latest version.

Now, we haven't had the time to evaluate everything in depth but we plan to do that over the coming weeks. My ideal plan would be to review all the bug reports and release a new release candidate every friday.

So give it a spin and let us know any bugs or issues you find (in the bugs forum) and we'll get on it. Thanks!

UPDATE: I zipped up the wrong branch. I've attached the latest (correct) one, which we'll call RC2b.

UPDATE: Download removed, go see the thread for the latest version.

MadPerhaps, I missed something...but there seems to be (at least) a couple of steps backwards here...Are you not continuing to include all the plugins previously available...like the full-page plugin, and the popup for insert image used to include a preview image option. Clue me in please.

What CVS version is RC2 based on? Did you post the wrong files? This one appears to be a very old version, and it certainly does *not* have Mishoo's latest fixes. It is only about 2/3 the file size of the latest CVS (1.96). I can't test it in my application because it is incompatible with the installation and initialization structure used in current CVS versions. I doubt you'll get much feedback on this one, because any serious developers have moved beyond this version and can't or won't go back.

Argh.. Maybe, I think I may have grabbed the wrong branch. I'll check that out and post a new version on Monday.

I'm still getting corrupted icons. Did somebody FTP these things in ASCII mode or something?

All seem to work in IE, but not in Firefox. I posted this (with screenshots) in the support area.

They're corrupted on my end as well (and when I got them from CVS). They must have been switched to text mode or something.

Can someone make a list of corrupted icons (in the bug forum) and if anyone has any of them from previous version can you upload them? That one should be an easy fix.

Also, This version seems to require htmlarea.init be called and then generate be called from htmlarea.onload. Is this the way it always was? My preference would be to have the code that calls htmlarea to be as simple as possible. If generate can't be called until htmlarea is fully loaded maybe we can just have it wait (by retrying every 0.x seconds with a timer)

I also noticed the actual load time of many of the examples was quite slow. And that's on a decent workstation and local webserver.

I spent a few hours re-writing the make_release.pl script to work on windows this weekend, I'm going to be going over the code in more detail this week.

I've committed my changes to CVS and tagged it rc2b for future reference.

Here a zip file with the icons that are corrupted at the current CVS... I got them from the RC1 version.

There is another one corrupted ed_killword.gif that is not at the RC1... so... I canīt send you that one.

Also... ed_save.gif is not anymore at the CVS... but there is an ed_save.png (that is corrupted too)... you might want to check on that one too.

Seen the ZIP file... but the question is: What about the CVS? Have you guys updated it?

attached is an updated htmlarea (based on rc2) with a number of fixes applied that include things like undo not working. these were all posted on the forums in various places and i have been applying them as needed. it would be great if these could make it into the next build!

htmlarea is really fantastic ...

thanks!

Thanks very much! I'll review that and apply as much of it as I can to RC3.

Much appreciated. :)

nice to see that HTMLArea has continued.. I've been using the latest version 2 for many many months now, hoping that a version 3 would come out. Since I use htmlarea in a production environment and am depending on it, I do not want to use any beta version.

I hope the new final version 3 will come out soon so I can integrate it in my new upcoming version 2 of my professional CMS. Keep up the good work!

[edit]oh, and maybe someone should update the website, it still says htmlarea 3 is in the beta stage...[/edit]

It's weird....

The examples are working in this release, yet when i load it up on my application, I just get the following:-

Error: HTMLArea.I18N has no properties
Source File: http://dotmagic.a1.no-ip.org/htmlarea/htmlarea.js
Line: 297 (That error is thrown by mozilla)

IE just moans about the same but it being a 'null' object.

Does anyone else get this, or know what the hell is going on here?

I had real problems with Firefox and the fullscreen popup. It looked like it was trying to access the HTMLArea data before it was properly initialised.

I resorted to copying over the RC1 fullscreen.html for now.

As an aside, is there a neat way to ONLY do a full screen popup editor? Perhaps fool it into binding to a hidden field in the parent? With toolbar buttons to save, etc, sometimes it'd be nice to jump straight to that, rather than have the embedded editor.

Oh, and the RC2b zip had "RC1" all through the release notes & docs.
