As a new HTMLArea user, I am interested to know if there is a plugin that pops-up a display of special characters (prob. Unicode based) for selection and posting back to the form area being edited?

I'm still a new user - could you perhaps be a bit more specific here; what is the name of the plugin; how do I activate it; what features does it have.. thanks.
I have downloaded what I assume is the latest version of edit.js from:
http://www.interactivetools.com/products/htmlarea/download.cgi
and although there is an "ed_charmap" button in the images, there does not seem to be a way to activate it on the menu settings? Is the plugin available somewhere else and, if so, where?

editor.js is HTMLArea 2
